The church "na Sewerynówce" is a small church located on the edge of the Beskid Sądecki forest in the Sewerynówka district. It was established on the initiative of the Polish Teachers' Union, which in 1922 obtained land for the construction of a small sanatorium from the then owner of Szczawnica. Initially, the facility did not have any chapel, but due to the considerable distance from the town centre and the religious needs of the visitors, it was decided to build a wooden chapel "on Sewerynówka" near the sanatorium. The building is distinguished by ornaments and sculptures made by local craftsmen, including Henryk Zachwieja.

  • Henryk Zachwieja

Henry 'Balthazar' Zachwieja is regarded as one of the best local sculptors. The chapel houses several of his works including the altarpiece and tabernacle.

  • The trail of partisans

By the chapel there is an information sign about the guerrilla trail through the flint, which passes right by the church.

  • Sewerynówka

Sewerynówka is a settlement of Szczawnica located on the Sopotnicki stream between Bereśnik and Przehyba. Apart from the chapel, there is the Czarda Inn and the Zaskalnik waterfall.

  • Blue trail

500 metres from the chapel is the blue trail starting in Szczawnica and heading towards Przehyby.

Henryk "Baltazar" Zachwieja

In the interior of the chapel are several works by Henrik Zachwieja. The artist was born in 1952 into the traditional highland family of Zachwieja. Although he was persuaded by his father, the famous Szczawnica hairdresser Tadeusz Zachwieja, to follow in his footsteps, Henryk decided to enrol at a music school in Nowy Sącz. He did not complete his education, and a year before his final exams he decided to enrol at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. When he was asked to paint a picture during the exam, the commission stated that this was how a person after the third year of studies paints, not the first year, and did not allow him to take any more exams, thinking that he was cheating. Zachwieja did not complete his art education and is mostly self-taught. His works can be found in many places in Szczawnica. His altar, tabernacle, harnas guarding it, sacrificial table and wooden stained glass windows can be found in the chapel on Sewerynówka.

Scorched sanatorium

On the way to the chapel, the overgrown foundations of the sanatorium can be seen. The facility was used as a lodging point for partisans during the Second World War and was partially burnt down in 1944. The building was renovated in the 1960s, but was again consumed by fire before reopening in 1962.
