The promontory on the Dunajec River is an island located next to the Orlica mountain hostel, at the mouth of the Grajcarek River into the Dunajec. Interestingly, only the southern half of the promontory is in the Pieniny National Park - the northern half is in Szczawnica. At a high level of the Dunajec River, the place becomes an island and is surrounded by water even from the tourist path. However, this does not prevent one from reaching the promontory, as it is connected with Szczawnica by a wooden bridge.
River noise
Compared to the rest of Szczawnica, the headland is an oasis of calm. Thanks to its out-of-the-way location, the place is visited by far fewer tourists than, for example, the Pieniny National Park or the centre of the spa. To make it more pleasant for tourists, there is a beautiful flower arrangement in the centre of the island and benches overlooking the Dunajec River.
Rafting on the Dunajec River
100 m from the promontory, there is a lower rafting harbour where the wooden boat trip starting in Sromowce Wyższe or Niżne ends. The place is surrounded by two inns serving traditional dishes.
Canoe course
There is also a kayaking track starting at the promontory. It is worth mentioning that it is from Szczawnica that Mateusz Polaczyk comes from - a four-time world vice-champion in canoe slalom!
Cycle path
Right at the promontory, there are hiking and cycling trails that lead to Slovakia, where the famous Pieniny Trail begins. It can also be used to reach the promenade in Szczawnica.
White House
In the interwar period, there was a guesthouse called the White House on the promontory. It was a charming little building with 12 beds located right on the Dunajec River, which was destroyed during the flood in 1934. Unfortunately, no traces of the building have survived, only a plaque commemorating the history of this place can be found on the Szczawnica side.
