A piece of history!

Explore Place

The wooden cairn in Łapsze Niżne was adapted for the purposes of the museum of sacred and folk art. The Spiš Calvary consists of the Stations of the Cross located on one of the Łapsze hills and completed in 2007. In addition to them, the entire Calvary also includes the Chapel of Our Lady and the Holy Sepulchre. For 17 years, the Calvary has brought the faithful together on the first Sunday of the month to experience the Stations of the Cross.

  • History encapsulated in objects

In the łapšanski sypanec we will find objects such as: monstrances, chasubles, old registers of, among others, baptisms, weddings and the deceased kept between 1742 and 1805, as well as objects of everyday use: a sideboard, a bench, a chest, a cradle, a wardrobe.

  • The hard work of human hands...

Parishioners of Łapsze Niżne showed their dedication during the creation of the Spiš Calvary by making a 9-metre wooden cross, the Chapel of Our Lady and the Rosary in the glade, as well as the entrance gate to the Calvary.

  • Consecration of the Spiš Calvary

On 2 June 2007, the opening and consecration of the Spiš Calvary took place, performed by Bishop Jozef Guzdek in the presence of the Provincial of the Piarist Order, Father Jozef Tarnawski.

  • The function of the sypan

The historic granary in Łapsze Niżne serves as a Regional Chamber and Parish Museum.
