Explore Place

Kościelec (2155 m above sea level) is one of the most distinctive peaks in the High Tatras, rising above the Gąsienicowa Valley and nicknamed the “Polish Matterhorn” due to its pyramidal shape. This granite mountain attracts tourists with its challenging black trail and mountaineers with its famous west face, offering a unique panoramic view of the Gąsienicowa meadow. This place is also known in history for the tragic death of the composer Mieczysław Karłowicz, who died in an avalanche at the foot of the mountain in 1909.
