The construction of the Red Monastery began in 1330. It was called the Lechnice Monastery because it was built on land excluded from the village of Lechnica, situated higher up in the valley of the Havka stream, and was "called red from the people" because of its red tile covering.

From the terrace on Okrąglica, you can get a 'bird's eye view' of the monastery in all its glory.

The complex can be visited from the inside at a cost of around €3 per person.

From Štiavnica to the monastery leads the so-called Pieniny Road, which can be covered by bicycle in 40min-3h.

Rock 7 Monks
According to folk tales, the 7 Monks rock at the Dunajec gorge represents the petrified monks of a monastery who were going to visit a nun who lived on the other side of the river.
