According to the tradition handed down by Jan Długosz, the owner of Czorsztyn Castle in 1246 was Piotr Wydżga (coat of arms Janina), a nobleman of the Kraków area, who also owned Rytro Castle, Łącko and Lemiasz Castle. Historians connect the beginnings of the castle with the activities of St. Kinga as the Lady of Sącz.
