The Górny Park is famous for its unique vegetation: beech, linden, maple, and larch trees, whose seeds were brought from Tokyo, and even pears on willows. These are fully real willow-leaved pear trees. These spreading shrubs are characterized by narrow, grey-green leaves that are strikingly similar to willow leaves. Small, green fruits with a diameter of about 2-3 centimeters appear on the shrub at the end of summer. They are inedible, but thanks to this, you can admire these fully real pears on willows in the Górny Park.

The concert shell, built in 1950, is located in the northern part of the Upper Park in Szczawnica. The structure is covered with white planks, and the entrance is decorated with a wooden railing and the characteristic ornamentation of the Zakopane style. Also known as the “little shell,” it stands on a wooden base and is covered with green sheet metal, which harmonizes with the surrounding vegetation. Its purpose was to host concerts that would entertain the patients, so it was placed right below the Inhalatorium.

During summer evenings, the concert shell becomes a stage for nighttime jazz concerts, where you can enjoy improvisations and music from past eras. From time to time, symphony orchestras also perform, presenting both classical and contemporary pieces. However, this is not the only musical attraction in Szczawnica. On Dietla Square, located at the top of the Upper Park, music festivals are often organized, attracting both local audiences and tourists.

What makes the Upper Park unique is not only the works of nature but also the works of art and craftsmanship. If you turn onto the path leading to the Inhalatorium, you might come across stone sculptures of musicians. One is playing the trumpet, and the other is playing the flute, and although they are silent, they make the walk more enjoyable for tourists and patients. Their appearance complements the natural landscape. They are not polished, and you can see scratches and discoloration from the rain, which makes their surface somewhat resemble the texture of tree bark.

In the park, you can also find a bust of Józef Szalay – the founder of the Szczawnica spa – who brought in several dozen species of trees and shrubs to make the time more pleasant for the patients.

The Counts’ Spa Chapel in the Lower Park in Szczawnica is a unique monument. It was built by the Mycielski counts in the mid-19th century, according to a design by Józef Szalayi, at the request of patients who could no longer fit into the much more distant and small wooden church. The new place of worship was built from white stone, and the inscription “TO GOD” was placed above the main entrance. Its architecture combines elements of the Neo-Gothic style with decorations characteristic of the Zakopane region, giving it a unique and picturesque appearance.

The interior of the chapel is impressive with the “Savior of the World” altar from 1848, a painting of the Mother of God with the Child, paintings with religious themes, stained glass windows, and a decorative vaulted ceiling. The Counts’ Spa Chapel is not only an important landmark related to the history of Szczawnica but also a place of prayer and reflection, where everyone can stop for a moment and find peace in the natural surroundings of the park. It is a symbolic place that connects the past with the present and remains the heart of this beautiful corner of Poland.

The Upper Park in Szczawnica, established through the initiative of Józef Szalaya, is a unique place for those seeking health treatments at the spa. Szalaya specifically planted tree species whose essential oils have beneficial effects on health, creating a healing environment. Therefore, while also enjoying the mountain air, it is worth taking a walk along the 1 km trail through the larch forest. This health-promoting trail runs alongside the “Nauczyciel” Sanatorium and Recreation Center (Połoniny 14).

Right behind the inhalation center, there is a path leading to the Pieniny Grand Hotel. At the top of this building, there is a unique Sky Bar, which towers over the valley at a height of 55 meters. From this vantage point, you can admire the beauty of the Pieniny landscape, the Dunajec River, and Szczawnica itself.
