The Staszic Ponds are temporary lakes in the Tatra Mountains, located in the Dolina za Mnichem valley. Their name commemorates the Polish researcher and geologist, Stanisław Staszic. Their presence is closely linked to the intensity of rainfall and the rate of snowmelt, meaning that tourists may find either full lake basins or dry, rocky bottoms. These reservoirs are an important landmark on the trail leading towards the Wrota Chałubińskiego pass and the Szpiglasowa Pass. A unique feature of this place is the fact that during the dry months, the water completely disappears into the rock crevices, revealing a stark, high-mountain landscape.
