Gorce is a mountain range belonging to the Western Beskids, located between the Sądecki Beskid and the Żywiecki Beskid, directly north of the Tatra Mountains (and it is precisely because of this that Gorce is famous for its beautiful views of the snow-capped peaks). The area is surrounded by well-known tourist destinations such as Nowy Targ, Mszana Dolna, Rabka Zdrój, and Krościenko nad Dunajcem. Before heading to Gorce, it is worth considering not only visiting the more popular peaks, such as Turbacz, but also less well-known peaks – some of them, including Magurki, are equipped with interesting attractions, such as observation towers.
Origin of the name
The name Pieniny probably comes from the word “gorzeć,” meaning “to burn,” and refers to the method of creating clearings by burning forested areas.
Crocuses
In spring, the mountain meadows are filled with crocuses, making them an incredibly attractive place to visit during April weekends.
Beginner-friendly trails
The trails in this area are well-marked and frequently used, so even novice hikers will have no trouble conquering the various peaks.
